Toowoomba, affectionately known as the Garden City is the largest, most sophisticated inland city of Australia. Being the catchment area for the Darling Downs and western regions, Toowoomba is the economic, cultural, educational and medical centre, servicing a wide range of primary and secondary industries.
Located some 700 metres above the sea, South East Queensland is blessed by tremendous natural beauty, magnificent mountain vistas, and its community enjoys perhaps the most pleasant climate of any region in Australia.
The over 55’s are particularly attracted to Toowoomba as a retirement location because of the comfortable population size, attractions and range of facilities and services. The increasingly high demand for quality senior residential accommodation was the inspiration behind the vision for this project.
The residents of Toowoomba enjoy four distinct mild seasons throughout the year. Spring is splashed with colour while we celebrate the annual Carnival of Flowers, summers are mild with low humidity than the costal centers, we enjoy crisp autumns and pleasant sunny winters.
The Toowoomba community is well established, with many shopping centers, recreation outlets and other amenities.
The residents of Toowoomba are served by three major hospitals, and a stand-alone day surgery facility. The Toowoomba Base Hospital provides over 160 beds, 6 operating theatres with emergency and intensive care facilities. St Andrew’s private hospital now has 111 beds for clients with 5 operating theatres and a day surgery. St Vincent’s private hospital can accommodate 188 patients, also with 5 operating theatres, 2 day surgeries and an emergency department. There is accommodation available in close proximity to each of the hospitals purposely built for families.
The cultural life for citizens of Toowoomba is exciting and vibrant with the city’s Empire Theatre as the premier performing arts complex. Staged within the Empire is a wide variety of musical theatre, eisteddfods, visiting artists and dramatic presentations. In addition to performances at the Empire, the University and the local Repertory Theatre host a series of live productions each year. Visitors and residents of Toowoomba enjoy several noted art galleries including the Toowoomba City Art Gallery, featuring local artists works throughout the seasons.
Many residents of Toowoomba are members of clubs such as Rotary, Lions, Zonta and Toastmasters, with more time to enjoy these activities when retired.
In Toowoomba, we boast the highest ratio of educational institutions per capita of population in Australia. More than 6,000 students, both domestic and international, pursue their tertiary qualifications through the University of Southern Queensland, at the Toowoomba campus.
Toowoomba is located, quite strategically, at the junction of the major highways leading from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin, with Brisbane closely located just an easy 75 minute drive east with the Sunshine and Gold Coasts accessed in around two hours.
Our population is estimated to be over 100,000 citizens with the greater Toowoomba region housing over 125,000 people.
The city of Toowoomba covers an area of more than 115sq kms. Set in a relatively low density urban environment, the developmental strategy by our regional council offers double the recreation space per person to local residents that an average resident of a larger city like Brisbane enjoys.
Toowoomba parks are one of our most noteworthy features including: the Botanical Gardens in Queens Park; the State Rose Garden in Newtown Park; the Japanese Gardens at the USQ; the scented gardens in Laurel Bank Park; the waterfall at Picnic Point; and many more.
For those who love the outdoors, featured bush walking tracks include: Table Top mountain and Redwood Park, and we boast one of the most impressive golf courses in the Middle Ridge Gold Course and the City Golf Course located centrally in Toowoomba.
